University of Delaware Students Run for Wes
In early August of 2005, a group of graduate students from the Geology Department of the University of Delaware came together as Team Wes and participated in a 5K run/walk organized by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Wearing especially made t-shirts – with Wes’ photo on the front and the Livestrong emblem on the back – team members made their way through the streets of the Riverfront area of Wilmington, Delaware on a sweltering hot August evening. John and Paula Wehmiller cheered proudly at the start and finish lines.
In addition to raising money for cancer research, members of the team made special contributions to the Wes Wehmiller Scholarship at Berklee College of Music. Wes’ dad, John, is Professor of Geology at U.D. and mentor and adviser to several of the Team Wes runners.
