Presenting:
HEAD>>FAKE featuring DOUG WIMBISH and WILL CALHOUN
The explosive rhythm section that drives the Grammy Award winning rock band Living Colour, is the dynamic duo behind the SoundSystem that is Head>>Fake.
Pioneers in jungle, drum & bass and dubstep performance, Head>>Fake, since 1995, has been breaking sound barriers with its mastery of technology and musicianship. Their signature song, “Cycles,” a mid-tempo trance-inducing groove with psychotic bass romping and bombastic drumming, is a like a canvas of the musical personalities that form the band.
Will Calhoun received his BA in recording and engineering from the Berklee College of Music. Will has produced recorded and toured with artists from around the world including Mick Jagger, Harry Belafonte, Pharaoh Sanders, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Salif Kieta, Marcus Miller, Mos Def (Yassin Bey), Stanley Jordan, Lauryn Hill, Paul Simon, Emily Sailers and Public Enemy, to name a few. His unique style of blending acoustic and electronic rhythmic concepts puts him in a class of rare new breed Rhythmatist. Between touring and recording, Will spends much of his time abroad researching Music and Ancestral Rhythms in West Africa, South America, and remote parts of Asia.
As bassist for the legendary rap label Sugar Hill Records backing The Sugar Hill Gang and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five to the pioneering Living Colour, Doug Wimbish has lent his innovative and creative bass grooves and sounds to a roster of world – renowned musicians. Considered a pioneer in hip hop bass playing and in the use of bass effects, alternate tunings and extended hand techniques, Doug’s mastery of the bass is unparalleled. Doug’s highly regarded career as writer, producer, bassist, engineer and ambience director has spanned all musical genres, recording and touring with artists such as Mick Jagger, The Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Seal, Mos Def, Black Jack Johnson, Tarja Turunen, Joe Satriani, Carly Simon, James Brown, Al Green, George Clinton, Kanye West, Schiller and Annie Lennox among others. Besides his work with Living Colour, Doug continues his collaborations with fellow bandmates in the groups Tack>>Head, Head>>Fake, Jungle Funk, Little Axe and DMD the Band (with Daru Jones & Marcus Machado).
Doug enjoys a successful solo career as well, releasing Trippy Notes for Bass in 1999 and CinemaSonics in 2006.
As producers, players, multi-instrumentalists, and songwriters, Will and Doug collectively worked on Herb Alpert’s Grammy-nominated CD, Colors.
Black Jack Johnson, a supergroup of Doug and Will with P-Funk synth master Bernie Worrell and Dr. Know (Bad Brains), produced, wrote and recorded with Mos Def on his RIAA certified Gold album, The New Danger.
